Pieter, Thanks for the post. I had read the araticle in Mainline Modeler some years ago and may even have that particular issue but cannot find it at the moment. I knew that a few southeastern roads had the 10' 0" IH car but could not recall which ones. Including the references to the Sunshine data sheets will help in making the cars accurate.
In proceeding I think it might be wise to attach the roof first, thus giving more stability to the body structure that remains since the sides will be cut out. It appears that a bit of overhang from a the standard roof allows for the side ribs. All in all, it would be an enjoyable project, or so I imagine. One never knows, problems can surface. Anyway, thanks for the help. It's not something that will happen immediately since I'm still completing two conversions: 1. Converting an AM box car into a KCS rebuild from a DS car. Got the idea from two articles in RMC. 2. Taking some old PermaBilt sides and creating a box car over a basswood frame. With the rivets available from ARCHER, I can add rivet detail. Guess I'll use the sides and ONE kit, a EJ&E green box car. I built this car decades ago in O scale from an All-Nation kit. 3. Also have a CGW 50' gon from two spliced AF gons. Decals obtained from Jerry Glow, whose work I highly recommend. 4. Converted an AF three-bay hopper into a welded hopper in the 67000-series. The CGW had five of these cars. Decals also from Jerry Glow. Jerry models in HO, but he will do any of the decals he has produced in S. His prices are not exhorbitant. Anyway, the idea of a War Emergency car just hit me as I thought of all those PRS cars available at low cost. What fun! There were several articles published on War Emergency cars in Mainline Modeler and elsewhere, but these are harder to access without the on-line index. I found the following links which may be helpful: http://www.sunshinekits.com/sunimages/sun29a.pdf http://www.sunshinekits.com/sunimages/sun29b.pdf http://www.sunshinekits.com/sunimages/sun29c.pdf http://www.sunshinekits.com/sunimages/sun29d.pdf Pieter E.
