Perhaps all you guys would be happier on a yahoo group for gearheads - I'm sure
there is one... The rest of us would like to get back to trains.
Spent last Friday in Fostoria (Ohio) at their "railroad park". It's a dirt
parking lot next to a falling down fence with a pot-a-potty and trash barrel
chained to it. The railfan group there is a great bunch of well meaning folks,
but (IMHO) they lack the leadership to pull off a railfan park any time soon.
But........ true to Fostoria's history, the site absolutely does not
disappoint! Spent 4.5 hours in the Iron Triangle during the "mid day lull" and
photographed 24 trains! They say it is the busiest railfan spot east of the
Mississippi - I don't doubt it. Take a scanner... Side note - Bob Nicholson
and I visited Fostoria back in 1979(?) on the way back from Orbisonia. It was
great then and better today - Bob you better hop in whatever you drive and make
the trip. Some things are actually better now than in those 'good ole days'...
Saturday I made it back to DPV and completed DCC & sound equipping an A-B-B set
of OMI FA's. I also completed replacement of the motor coupling and drive
shafts on three more FA's. The mission is to get them running great in DC
before doing the Tsunami installations. Those three will get the same DCC
treatment next trip. I replaced the drive shafts with stock NWSL parts. I
know there was some traffic on this group about universal replacements, I
use/adapt NWSL couplings - haven't had a failure yet with those parts...
