I am feeling unusually dumb, even more than usual, about the electronic end of
the hobby.
I read the Bachmann manual on the basic system I bought, and I read the manual
with my SHS
2-8-0, and I am obviously missing something, as I cannot get the locomotive to
move.
The SHS manual says that the DCC address is set at the factory to the road/cab
number of the unit,
but this particular one has four digits, while the Bachmann console offers only
nine single-digit
buttons (plus the analog--presumably straight DC--setting). Moreover, since
this is second-hand,
I have no way of knowing what the previous address setting is.
There is a click in the tender when I push some buttons (I think the stop one)
but no other indication
of anything going on. I am about to pull the decoder and install the shorting
plug to make sure it
operates properly on DC.
Can anyone help me sort this out by e-mail?
