Hi John.... The first purely S scale event is an all-day tour to visit the two largest S scale standard gauge layouts in northern California and one exquisite Sn3 layout as well. This tour will include an Amtrak ride from Sacramento to Richmond, transfer to BART for a ride down to Fremont, then transfer to a bus for a ride to the first leisurely layout visit at the Mighty NYC. More details can be found on our web site at: http://www.x2011west.org/nasg.html The S scale fun begins early Wednesday morning at the literal crack of dawn and ends Saturday evening at 11:00 pm after the banquet in the roundhouse of the California State Railroad Museum. You will probably want to arrive Tuesday evening in order to prepare for the Wednesday morning tour. Now just to complicate things for you, check out the Advance Section information on our web site. As you will see, all kinds of activities start on the Friday BEFORE the official beginning of the convention proper. During the Advance Section, there will be some S scale layouts open for visitors without the need for paying for a train/bus ride tour. You can drive your own car (or a rental car) and get in for free. Of course you will spend more money on hotel and meal expenses, so it is sort of a wash with regard to cost. But some folks prefer to drive themselves and others prefer the social comaraderie of the train/bus ride. Suit yourself since we are offering both. For additional complications, please note that the Train Collectors Association (TCA) is having their annual convention in Sacramento just one week prior to the NASG/NMRA event. Thus, you can attend the TCA event, the NMRA event and the NASG event all in one trip to "S"acto, CA. Not bad, eh? Where else can you get three model railroad conventions in a two week period? Regardless of convention dates, you can order the official S scale convention car right now. Details are on the web site right here: http://www.x2011west.org/nasg.html#convcars Our Treasurer, Mr. William Roberts, stands ready to accept your payment right now for the sugar beet cars, drop bottom gondola cars and the sugar beet loads. Please specifiy scale or AF-compatible for the RTR (ready to run) cars. Both cars are brand new products with brand new tooling. I should note that some versions of some cars have less than 50 units left. Might be good to send in your order now since the money will help subsidize other convention expenses such as the not-cheap roundhouse rental fee. Reading the web site is the best way to figure out what is happening on what days. Please ask more S-oriented questions if the web site does not have the answers. See you in "S"acto.....Ed L. ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
