However I would suggest not stripping the entire message but leaving in 
a line or 2 so that people reading have a clue what the question was or 
some context to the discussion.

Without context a lot of replies are totally meaningless.

Most email clients allow you to delete sections of replies without 
deleting the whole reply, like Thunderbird.
