I guess I am a luker as I seldom write anything. Most questions are answered by
the time I get to them.
Trainfest is held every year in Milwaukee WI the second week end in
November. This year it was last weekend, Nov 13 and 14. This was the 39th year
is has been held. It is held at the Wisconson State Fair grounds at the Expo
building. This building is about the size of 3 football fields. It is a very
large building. There were 69 layouts, about 67 manufacturers, 24 clinic and
demonstrations, 45 dealers and vendors, 23 displays, 14 Historical groups, and
8 things for children. Most of the displays and layouts are HO, but a few O
scale, N scale and G scale. S was there in 3 places. Badgerland S Gaugers had
their layout. Will Holt and Joel Lebovitz, from Chicago, were running trains on
the outside track with DCC. Badgerland was running on the inside with their
equipment and member Fred Vergenz, with his Amtrak train. We had a lof of
literature out and it all was taken. Badgerland member Ron Schlicht has his
Flyer layout. This layout is all flyer and is just a couple of feet off of the
ground. It is designed for children to watch, and there are always a lot of
children around it. Another BSG menber, Larry Blank had his extraordinary scale
modules on display. These are the same modules he had at the NMRA convention
this summer in Milwaukee. They took first place for a module display. One
feature of his modules is he has built some beautiful deck girder bridges. He
made a pattern and made resin castings. He was thinking about marketing these
bridges, but he felt they didn't have the quality to sell them. I Think they
are good enough to sell. Larry has a lot of plans for these bridges. I can draw
them in Solid works and have a pattern made. Next week, we are going to get to
gether and explore the possibality of producing a bridge. Any comments from
anyone would be appreciated, off line.
I forgot to mention above that trainfest had 23,476 people come through
the door, about 12,800 on Saturday, about 10,676 on Sunday. Another 1,800
participants, for a total of just over 25,000 people.
