John,

Generally speaking that's true, especially for the cars from SHS or other more
recent manufacturers. Some AF cars you may want to convert, others possibly
not. The gondola cars and possibly the three=bay hoppers. You might want to
file off, sand down, or whatever the cast-on ladders and replace them either
with grab irons or separate ladders, depending on what the prototype had.

Subject: {S-Scale List} can one easily convert AF freight cars to scale?

Greetings friends -

A former neighbor of mine has offered me some of his AM and SHS rolling stock,
as he's selling his home to relocate to a smaller condo. His cars are American
Flyer compatible, not scale. My AM and SHS are all scale.

Before I pay for postage (some of you know I live across the pond) I want to be
sure: can his cars equipped with AF-compatible couplers and wheels be easily
converted to scale? I assume I just replace the wheelsets and couples, correct?

Sorry for the naiveté, I am a new S-scaler and don't have the advantage of
products carried in shops here in Europe.

Thanks for any pointers!
