Just to add more to the confusion, I consulted my 1946 Car Builders'
Cyclopedia, the one used by railroads as opposed to us foamers. If you look in
the Index to Car Parts and Products for "Roof Walks", you will find nothing, as
in no listing or use of the words. If you look under "Running Boards", there
are several listings. There is also a listing under "Runways, Roof". Several
listings are for the "new" metal grate varieties.
Just some grist for the mill.... <G>
BTW - it appears the "S" increasingly stands for "retired"! Those of us who
work outside the home get little opportunity to respond to the 40+ messages
posted since walking out the door at 6:30 AM! Maybe that's why so many lurk...
