Pieter, I've done the same thing with 3/32 styrene tube. I usually cut them long, apply them to the car, sand to the final length and angle I want and then apply generous amounts of some type of solvent cement like Tamiya thin cement. The solvent makes them go all melty and rounds over all the edges nicely.
