I've done the same thing with 3/32 styrene tube.  I usually cut them long, 
apply them to the car, sand to the final length and angle I want and then apply 
generous amounts of some type of solvent cement like Tamiya thin cement.  The 
solvent makes them go all melty and rounds over all the edges nicely.

you might try using 3/32" tubing (plastic or brass, your choice) sections cut 
real short, ACC'd to the car ends, dressed with a file and filled with epoxy, 
which should form a natural concave shape as it dries, if you block the stake 
pocket in a horizontal position.
