Luter: No offense taken... For "decals" I have always used CDS dry transfers. You can transfer them to clear decal film if you wish to work that way. CDS sets S-529 and S-530 are made for the NYC steel and 19000 series wood caboose respectively.
While CDS is no longer making the sets, they do have a large inventory and I know Jeff Wilson at Hoquat Hobbies (another list lurker) generally has them in stock. If you totally strike out, I may have a few extras in the modeling debris in the basement!
