I **know** I am lucky in that respect and very happy to report that my RDS5
drive required no extensive work to get it running. As mentioned once I
change the driveshafts think it will run pretty well.

 

It is not 1 of the better engineered drives I have seen. The screws to
attach the drive to the shell are impossibly buried right under the truck
sideframes - for no good reason either. No brass bushings and lots of small
gears tying the axles together. 

 

I think that the mojo of it having the Mighty PRR antennas on it - however
incorrectly to match its prototype brethren helped preserve its
functionality. How else could it be explained?

 

Should the running capabilities change in the future I am pretty sure I can
rework the drive with the Overland E units trucks I have. But that would
take some significant effort.
