S Friends,
A local friend just sent me a link to a New Mexico business newspaper.
They've reported that the fire damaged trestle on the Cumbres and Toltec
will be repaired with money from several sources including the stimulus
package. The total repair costs is about 2mil!
We've always enjoyed riding that section of the narrow gauge because of
it's laid back way of running things. However in recent years the
railroad has had troubles and ridership has dropped a bit. This
railroad almost had me switching to the narrow side--I just couldn't
afford to vacation there any longer than two days; perhaps if I'd stayed
a few more days I'd be running C-19's instead of Turbines and E-6's!
