Thanks for that information, by all means, still wrap the items with something, 
first, then, the peanuts.

It depends. I used to buy and sell a lot of high end audio and, if an item was 
shipped with peanuts, you could guarantee damage. The best I have found is 
large bubble wrap wrapped around the item to fit in the shipping box with extra 
attention to corners.

Obviously geared toward larger audio items, but still a lot of info there 
useable by model railroaders as well.
