Yes, true about Jim Boyd. If you recall, his photo actually appeared in the
Dispatch - 1993-1994 era when he was a guest at a Flyerfest (you know,
trains on the floor). I wrote the article. I met Jim then, of course, and
at a few railfan events in the midwest here. I do recall a slide show he
did that I attended somewhere where he had a slide sequence (while
railfanning) of his green VW beetle appearing to gobble him up while he was
standing in front of it.
Our local railfan slide group just had our 50th Anniversary dinner in
October (I haven't been a member for 50 years, but a few others have), and
he gave us a cellphone call to congratulate us. He was from Dixon,
Illinois, and had many railfan and modeler friends from that area including
Mike Schafer, Lloyd Rinehart, Mike McBride. President Ronald Reagan was
also from Dixon.
I always enjoyed Jim's writings and photography in Railfan and Railroad and
various books.
