You got it right, but there is more (I,ll leave it alone). We all got what we
wanted. John Armstrong

Subject: {S-Scale List} SHS/American Models
All,
For those that may have not been in S for 15+ years here is a little history
lesson - Readers Digest version. Some things might not be perfectly correct
but the gist is true. The most wanted thing in S in the early 90s were
plastic passenger cars. Don Thompson did the research and presale on the
condition that the first sales would go to him. In short he was HELPING
American Models so S HELPER Service was born. After a period of time the
sales and molds were taken over by American Models. There were a few
projects that were done in this fashion like the FA2 and RS3. I think that
is about where Don started making his own products + - but in my mind was
responsible for making the best quality ever produced by A M. In short
before Hi Rail fever decimated the A M design process.
One thing good for Don about researching the passenger cars is he got to
pick what cars got made. Being the lone CNJ S modeler he chose a CNJ coach
that was 72' over the coupler faces.
And that is how S Helper Service came to be...
For Alex - I am not sure what shorter or longer coach you are thinking
about. There is only 1 plastic heavyweight coach that are not the Pullmans.
But the combine and baggage are the same length so this "Reading" roof will
fit on those cars as well.
Thank You,
Bill Lane
