Jace et al --

I have some facts and some beliefs regarding your question.

Fact: The scale Rex gon/flat were designed to accept the Rex-specific zamac
coupler pockets and dummy black nylon couplers, designs not used by any other
manufacturer, then or now.

Fact: The Rex cars were intended to receive Stewart brake components
(soft-metal cylinder, reservoir, triple valve), which were included in the
original kits. Today, these are marketed by Ye Olde Huff 'n' Puff. But I
would
suggest substituting either BTS (brass) or Grandt Line (styrene) brake
components. FYI, the Rex kits also contained a short length of steel rod
(brake
staff) and a delicate-looking black nylon brake wheel molding.

Belief: I'm pretty sure that Culp Brothers made the dies for Rex. Ace may
have
contracted wih Culp to alter these dies for the house car floors. Or perhaps
Ace (Walter Graef) machined his floor pattern from a Rex car, then had them
cast
by someone else. Some of the guys on this e-list knew Walter, and so may have
the actual facts.
