All,
In trying to decide if I should use 14 ga. bare copper wire for my power buss I posted to the NCE list over the weekend and called NCE this morning. A typical S-Mod set up could be a loop of track. The DC power buss could have also been plugged in all around the circumference making a loop as well. I learned that in the same circumstance in DCC you should NOT make a complete loop with the power buss. You should have 2 ends. The power booster should be in the center of your loop with the power buss going out in both directions from there. That was all news to me today. I think with my current little loop layout that truly **is** speaker wire from S-Mod days it may be a complete loop for the power buss on 1 of the tracks. I have not had a problem in a year. Also at the end of your DCC power buss it is advisable to add a "Snubber" http://www.wiringfordcc.com/track_2.htm#a47 which is a resistor and a capacitor across the lines to help fix inconsistencies of the power that can occur. I found out that the Radio Shack parts numbers for making a Snubber are 100 ohm, 1* W Resistor 271-152 & 0.1uF, 50 WVDC Capacitor 272-1053 Matt at NCE said that since I will not be longer that a 50' run in either direction I am fine with 14ga. wire but I should use the snubbers.
