Indeed. S scale is very, very fortunate to have the many good folk that
produce stuff for this rather niche market. Also, this has to be one of the
best model railroading communities I've ever had the privilege of
associating with.

Well... in my case, I suspect that I have evolved to the point where my
computer IS my hobby: I use it to research my hobbies, communicate with
like-enthusiasts; I build V scale (virtual) "layouts" (called "routes" in V
scale); build V scale structures, trees, litter, whatever; "operate" (run a
train "job") in V scale... and now I'm getting ready to learn how to build
my own steam engines and rolling stock in V scale. All this is done on my
computer.
I still have a deep appreciation for workbench modeling, S scale in
particular... but it seems my energy is invested in V scale more than any
other train-related interest.
So... you're right, my computer is getting in the way of the methods that I
used to employ exclusively to enjoy trains: Workbench modeling and layout
building.
Guess it's just that times are changing for me.
