Great find Gary! I found the story of the Barb really interestingÂ…

If any of you were interested in building a model of the USS Barb (SS-220), a
Gato class submarine, Revell makes a 1:72 Gato which could be numbered to make
it the Barb.

At various points in her career, the Barb was based in New London, CT, and Key
West, FL so you could presumably depict her taking on provision for an upcoming
war patrol.

Furthermore, one of her sisters, the USS Ling (SS-297) is on display in
Hackensack, NJ within yards of a Susquehanna rail bridge;

Also, while this is in Groton, CT, not New London, there's a spot where the
tracks of the Providence and Worchester Railroad run within yards of the USS
Nautilus (museum). By swapping out the Nautilus for the Barb, you could create
a really interesting scene with the "sub that sank a train".

Finally, in regards to the Barb being the ONLY sub to sink a train, I have an
old T-shirt that depicts a Conrail `U-boat' sinking the Chinese steam engine
Susquehanna ordered in the early 90'sÂ…
