All,
I have been distracted this weekend doing layout things. I made progress and it was great. I have briefly scanned the posts over the past few days. The "WE Needs" have surfaced again - version 02.2011.03. I am in S Scale for 23 years now. Some here have been in it for much longer than that. S Scale is a lot of things for many of us, but the one thing it has NEVER been is convenient! In a group of my HO friends I have long worn that fact like a badge of honor. It is NOT easy. You have to search for things and work for your art. Many "cottage" S Scale manufacturers and suppliers are members of this list. 2 "We Needs" of the week were a powered turnout and an all S magazine. I fail to see why anyone would want the S equivalent of Atlas Snap Track with the big black rectangle on the side of every one. That point aside you would be alluding to wanting "someone" investing ___ dollars for an all new turnout that is all inclusive with a switch machine. What about Shinohara, Tomalco, Toms or Fast Tracks? You would want the "new" thing competing with our already existing pool of suppliers? The is a struggling S Scale only magazine already in existence as well. As an S Supplier such posts would make me feel really unloved.. I don't claim to be the God of all S Scalers. But a search of the group archives should reveal I have never posted "Someone should make" anything. I pretty much take care of getting what I want within reason in a number of different ways. That by far does not make me better than anyone else reading this. But I do get a sense of satisfaction I would not get if I were in HO being a BUYER and not a modeler. I read on the PRR Modeler list last week someone cranking off about something amazingly miniscule any one of us here would be glad to have in our hands as is. We are not in S Scale because it is easy. I will hopefully have a dozen turnouts powered and ready for wiring this time tomorrow for about $10.00 per motor. It was pretty easy to do - even retrofitting to turnouts that were installed with a ground throw application. There will be no large black rectangle next to them either. Sorry I would not ask anyone to invest $100,00.00+ (Yes that is the kind of dollars we are talking here) to make a powered turnout for my 40 turnout layout I am building. Give me something that is PRR and really accurate that I do not have. I will be a happy camper.
