All of the recent chatting re: "what we need .", fails to include one KEY
element: profitability for the manufacturer. While a MILW box or any other
item may be of interest to some modelers, the fact is that NONE of my S
rolling stock kits to date have been produced ONLY in S . each one started
as an HO project. Except for diesels, which have a much higher retail price
(and more parts required to make 'em go), I cannot cost-justify producing
S-only rolling stock given the "typical" production run of 80-100 cars.
Even with HO CAD files to work from, the pattern cost, kit parts cost, etc.,
requires a minimum of 80 to make a project worthwhile.
In the case of the MILW ribbed side box, HO is filled with offerings from
various manufacturers over the years, including a current mfr who's
producing the car in several configurations for less than $20 RTR. It would
make no sense for me to duplicate these cars in HO just to enable an S item.
