I wonder if anyone on this list has completed installation of the Palace
Car Company interiors into an AM 12-1 Pullman?
If so, I would appreciate any tips on how you went about it, and, in
particular, how you painted the seats, walls, headrests, etc. I am close to
being ready to start the painting.
One of the things I have observed with my kit is that the seats are
oversized for the floor plan. The space of each seat is a lot deeper (from
front
to back) than the size of the rectangles drawn on the the floor that is
provided. This would result in there being only a tiny amount of space
between the fronts of the seats that face each other. It would be impossible
to
place S people in those seats unless one cut off the feet, which may be
necessary even if I file off the seats.
I have experimented by filing off some of the seats and the lower parts of
the partitions between the backs of the seats. Although it takes a little
time, I see that by filing both the lower part of the front of each seat
and the entire back side of the seat, I can reduce the overall space so that
each seat will fit into the rectangles drawn on the floor.
I have consulted via email with Dick Karnes who wrote an article on
installation a few years ago. He made a couple of suggestions I like.
One suggestion is to trim off the window material from the roofs and glue
clear styrene against the windows. This eliminates the need for the
inserts from the roof that go through the floor and also allows the modeler to
cut out the projections from the floor.
The other suggestion is to install the seats "according to the window
arrangement. There is a pair of seats facing each other at every paired
window
(six per side on the 12-1) , five per side on the 10-1-2). In the 12-1,
the carbody is incorrect, in that the paired windows are not precisely
opposite each other from one side to the other (across the aisle), so you need
to fudge."
Thanks for any help on this subject, especially the paint colors for the
interiors.
