Hi Ed; You do realize that you are both one of the most frequent complainers and also near the top of the list for starting off - topic threads or pushing a thread off-topic?
As moderator I view the list as composed of grown ups with a reasonable degree of self control. Hey, when I feel like shooting the breeze about non-S scale or non-model RR topics, I talk to my wife or a co-worker or a non-modeller friend. I DON'T go on this or another train list to do it. Somehow I just assume most folks here will do the same. I guess that puts my vote on self-discipline rather than more moderator control. I AM flexible, we could go all-moderated all the time; were nothing goes to the list without Bill or I approving it. Of course, neither of us is on-line 24/7, so everyone might have to wait a considerable time before your post appears - if it is judged on-topic. Or, everyone can try harder to focus on the purpose of the list, and keep the off-topic chit-chat OFF LIST. I assume everyone here can get direct individual e-mail as well. Try it some time. Hi Jeff...A huge number of messages on this list have nothing to do with S scale model trains -- including the one I just sent. I have complained to the Moderators about this unfortunate fact of life, but the prevailing philosophy seems to be that everything will end within three days and so there is nothing to worry about. Thus, no enforcement. I agree with your implication that greater self discipline and/or Moderator control of message content would be a big improvement. Should we take a vote?
