Mark,

If you don't want sound any old twenty buck HO decoder will work just
fine. I'd use TCS or NCE function decoders. Unless you use a
Digitrax system do not use Digitrax decoders as they are not fully DCC
compatible (or in marketing speak - they feature proprietary
improvements to the DCC standard.)

QSI sound decoders are currently unavailable as they prepare to roll
out their new line of 64 bit stereo decoders (oh, yeah!) LokSound
makes a very flexible very good sounding decoder but almost all models
use a 100 ohm speaker so choose your speaker carefully. They are also
in the process of rolling out a new line now using 16 ohm speakers (as
opposed to the old new line which used 8 ohm.) Are you getting the
sense Tsunami sound decoders might be the most stable right now? Not
the most flexible or best sounding (although pretty good) but readily
available and a standard 8 ohm speaker.

Whatever you get, order an aftermarket high bass speaker and use an
enclosure.
