More than a few years ago, our local NMRA Division organized a tour of
the Galveston area's model railroads. A couple of "well to do" modelers
hired a local hobby shop to pretty much build their railroads. On the
tour the HS owner actually ran the layout for us and the owner. It was
totally devoid of control panels with everything being done from the now
vintage DT-100's throttles. I thought it was like getting into a car
without any controls or maybe like a typical video game with actual
physical results!

I think I would feel more comfortable actually running the layout from a
PC then bouncing back and forth with a hand-held throttle. I could see
that working for some elaborate operating sessions where you had a full
dispatcher running the show.

BTW, the second layout I mentioned above is scheduled to be in a future
issue Model Railroader. At this time I won't make any comments about
this owner's ability to actually run this layout.
