Of course one problem with searching for "S scale" layouts is that so
many

of them are not scale. Maybe just a small percentage of them. Some of

the AF and other highrail layouts are nice but there are some really terrible

ones too.

I previously mentioned that Bob Werre's utube video is one of my

favorites. _http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lzdur6DS57g_

Another favorite is a video of the Piedmont S Gaugers. I received some

information this morning about this group after asking a friend in the Blue

Ridge Scalers about them. .

"The Piedmont S Gaugers are a splinter group that broke away from ACSG

about

a year ago. ACSG still uses tubular track so they couldn't run the scale

cars and locomotives that the Piedmont guys were buying. The Piedmont

group

has standardized on S-Helper track and Tom's turnouts and lay out their

track to meet NASG standards".

So I would consider this to be a "scale" club, a rarity in the South, as

they probably can run both scale and highrail. I hope they will set up at

the 2012 Chattanooga NASG Convention.

(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AJPB5-UfOM&feature=related) I

especially like seeing the Seaboard E8 in action.

As for Robert Graves' comments about videos of the San Diego club, let me

say I have watched their videos numerous times and find them entertaining.

And their website has some great information about how they built their

modules.

Our club's website has nine embedded YouTube videos of our S-Scale layout

- S-Helper track, Tom's Turnouts, and trains from S-Helper, American

Models, Flyonel, and Gilbert. And I have a bunch more under my handle

"ParkVisitor".

I have found a few good S scale videos on Utube but most are really short,

like 16 seconds, for example. But here is a really good one of Bob

Werre's layout. It is a little more than 2 minutes. I would like to see

some 10

minute videos of layouts like this and the height of the rails would not

matter to me as long as its not American Flyer track.

There are a few good scale layouts

I have to agree with you I have not seen one Scale Layout on U-Tube. Maybe

they don't want us to know it is scale so we would watch it,

Thanks,

I am part hirail and part scale with my start in S beginning at age 5 when

I received an AF set with Hudson and some very nice accessories.. I

continue my interest in hirail primarily because of my wife's 5 year old

grandson and some other young cousins that I have introduced to S gauge.

My

personal modeling interests have moved to scale and I am building modules

that

will be a mixture of code 100 and code 125 trackwork. Thus my interests in

S are pretty broad.

I think the Sacto 2011 Convention is extremely well planned and that Uncle

Edward has done a great job with the schedule of events and with keeping

us informed at every step of the process, starting more than a year ago.

So

I have no complaints. I am especially looking forward to the clinics on

electronics (DCC, signaling, etc.) for all modelers of any gauge or flange

depth, even though I fear that many of them will be over my head.

The all day tour on Wednesday to see outstanding layouts in the area is

especially appealing and it is a great opportunity to meet other S

gaugers.

There may not be highrail on this tour, I really do not know. But highrail

tours are plentiful in most of our regions and you can see almost anything

you would want to see (and a lot you would not want to see) of American

Flyer layouts on Utube. Not so with scale layouts. Scale layouts are

almost

nonexistent in many parts of the country including Tennessee where I live.

So I see the Wednesday tour of scale layouts as taking advantage of the

best that S has to offer in the region. If one wants to see highrail,

there

is a great highrail layout that will be set up at the convention. This

layout is nicely covered in an article in the Dispatch that I received in

yesterday's mail. Plus one can expect to see a lot of AF stuff at the

National Train Show (this is my guess, I have never attended a NTS

before).

Now having said all of that, I would love to have the opportunity to

attend

a clinic on how to lubricate AM and SHS locomotives ( I do not know if I

do it right or not) and how to put scale couplers on American Models FP7s

and E8s, something that seems a lot more difficult than I think it ought

to

be. I would also attend a TMCC clinic if it did not interfere with higher

priority clinics or tours. Maybe some of the experts in this group might

volunteer with off-line emails to Uncle Edward L.

Sorry to observe that this convention has a very disappointing program

with which roughly half of the hobby is ignored. Where are the clinics on

Gilbert Flyer, modern hi-rail S gauge, TMCC, repairs, etc., etc., etc.?

Joint

NASG/NMRA conventions have not always been so narrow in scope (e.g., St.

Paul, MN a decade ago). Are there any modern hi-rail and traditional

Gilbert

layouts on the layout tour? Doesn't appear to be. The NASG is supposed to

embrace the broader aspects of the S gauge hobby. Just think from where

over

half the dues comes. California has robust constituencies in the

operating,

collecting, repair of vintage Gilbert Flyer and Lionel Flyer, as well as

modern hi-rail enthusiasts who love SHS and AM hi-rail equipment. Logic

would

indicate that these S gauge communities be represented in the program.

Nice web site, anyway......
