Jace, Wes, anybody,
I built the # 42 in 2002 so the details in my mind are not as sharp as ai
would like but I will share my experience with you. The chassis looks
daunting as a flat brass etching, most important is folding it and keeping
it square while soldering the joints. I may have fitted the drivers before
soldering just to ensure it was folded correctly. I added all the chassis
parts before moving to the boiler. Before attaching anything to the boiler,
test fit the pieceto ensure a good fit. The parts are very flash free and
little cleanup is needed. I predrilled all the holes for piping and mounting
parts. I used epoxy where I felt strength was needed- cab - and Dr Mikes acc
for smaller parts and pipes. Unless you have metric drills and wire, convert
all the dimensions to english drill sizes or in numbers. I felt the size of
pipes for the feedwaterr heater were on the small side so I enlarged them a
little. I didn't build the tender, the decoder is in it. I remember a
backhead but no room for electronics in the boiler.
The loco is a smooth runner and really looks good. I have some pics
somewhere, will post when I find them . I built the 2-8-0 for a friend so I
don't have it available.
