Peter, As someone pointed out, and similar to Stan's link, the NASG clearance gauge would be a good guideline for platform clearance. It is notched out at the bottom for just that purpose. http://www.nasg.org/pdf/clearanceTemplates.pdf I purchased a package that has both a clear plastic and a wood template, possibly NASG......not sure. Someone on this list may be able to provide the suppliers name.

Other drawings I've found allow 5'7" or 6'4", with restrictions on the type of equipment. Basically, it appears that 9 ft is the standard for unrestricted clearance, with closer ones allowed.
