As pointed out once before, high level platforms are tight
enough that some freight roads insist on gauntlet track in the
area.
On the other hand, freights on Metro-North seem to do fine
without it:

Though,
the wood protection boards on the outer edge of the platforms frequently
look well-splintered.
Also, years ago, a whole line of rafter
ends on the local platform canopy were all broken off. I guess sometimes
clearance is an estimate.
