Bob,

Although I'm not a historian in the model field, much of HO was not much
better than typical Flyer until quite recently. Those so called NMRA
couplers, and the Mantua couplers were actually pretty gross looking,
while the AF knuckle, despite being too large, looks realistic. The
Athearn Baldwin had too wide a hood just like AF's version with too
large a cab. AF flanges were too large but I've heard many stories
about Rivorsii's (SP)flanges also.

Actually if Lionel would make a plastic floor similar to the Ace
conversion floor for their 'house' cars, it would put them in a much
better light. I can't imagine that both AF and Lionel haven't yet made
enough profit for them to stick a few bucks into creating one--what's
all that about reinvesting for the future that industry is suppose to be
doing!

Now let me put on my Public Relations hat and address what George has
mentioned about "one upping" HO. Jim mentioned about creating an HO
version of his car also, so that will be short lived. In fact since Jim
doesn't believe in advertising, hardly anybody but us will even know
about it! So already a golden opportunity to make S constantly more
recognizable in our modeling world will just fade away.
