I think many are leary of purchasing Sunset products. Their history of
producing good running models is pretty dismal. They made four basic
engines--the Geeps with so-so quality and only average detail; the Big
Boy nice detail, a few bad solder joints but many barely run; the
Challenger is only marginally better than the BB; and that leaves the
narrow gauge K engine. I've heard good things about them.
Unfortunately I think Sunset is going to have to build one and demo it
around. When Charlie Sandersfielt introduced his MP 2-8-0 he demo'd it
at the last Sacramento convention. He was a new company and needed to
prove himself. In the case of Sunset, I think they have to crawl out of
a hole!

Now, I do believe that Southwind engines were based on the Sunset
'basic' engines. Those two seem to be good runners and solidly
constructed in my case. But I don't know how much involvement Sunset
had other than perhaps the drawings and design.
