Hi All,

The Houston S Gaugers had another fantastic show this past weekend. We
were set up at one of the biggest and most popular malls in Houston,
Texas. For most of us, the show started at 4 or 5am in the morning on
Saturday, to try to make it for set-up at 6am. After 15 minutes trying
to find a security guard to let us in, we had trains up and running by
around 9am, plenty of time for the 10am opening. Turnout on Saturday was
tremendous, probably because a lot of people were doing last-minute
shopping for Father's Day. We ran trains from 10am until 9pm, when the
mall turned off practically all lights (subtle hint it was time to go).

Sunday started at noon and we ran trains until 5:30pm. Turnout at first
was light, but by mid-afternoon we had just about as many people as on
Saturday. Lots of people interested in our layout, taking pictures and
videos on their "iPhones", etc.

Overall, things went well at the show. We had some minor electrical
glitches first thing on Saturday, but they were solved before the show
opened. From then on it was smooth sailing all day long. Sunday,
however, was a bit different. I guess we were all tired from the day
before. There were a number of rear-end collisions, several issues with
shorts occurring on the layout. However, we had a blast! We even did a
couple of sessions doing some switching work, which seemed to attract a
nice-sized crowd. We were thinking last year that the audience might
like to see some action other than trains constantly running in loops,
and it seems we were right.

Anyway, I just updated our club's web site where you can see photos of
this weekend's show, including one video of the main line action. We
pretty much ran four trains on the layout both days. To see the latest
info, go to

then click on "Events"
then click on the first entry under "Past Events" titled "Father's Day
weekend 2011".

Note that you can click on any of the photos to see a much larger
version. The bottom of the page has a link to the YouTube video.

Enjoy,
  - Peter.
