>From the You Tube video description:

3D printing is a form of additive manufacturing technology where a three
dimensional object is created by laying down successive layers of
material. 3D printers are generally faster, more affordable and easier
to use than other additive manufacturing technologies. 3D printers offer
product developers the ability to print parts and assemblies made of
several materials with different mechanical and physical properties in a
single build process. Advanced 3D printing technologies yield models
that can serve as product prototypes.

The above description is also found in the Wikipedia entry on 3D printing.

>From Wikipedia entry on rapid prototyping:

With additive manufacturing, the machine reads in data from a CAD
drawing and lays down successive layers of liquid, powder, or sheet
material, and in this way builds up the model from a series of cross
sections. These layers, which correspond to the virtual cross section
from the CAD model, are joined together or fused automatically to create
 the final shape.

And from the Smoky Mountain website:

By 2002, we had grown into a full-time business utilizing
state-of-the-art 3D CAD software (Solidworks) and Rapid Prototyping
technology.

Smoky Mountain's website also refers to using SLS and  SLA technology which are
two types of rapid prototyping.  SLA refers to stereolithography.  From the
Wikipedia entry on stereolithography:

Stereolithography has many common names such as: 3D printing, optical
fabrication, photo-solidification, solid free-form fabrication and solid
 imaging.

>From the Wikipedia entry on selective laser sintering:

Selective laser sintering (SLS) is an additive manufacturing technique that
uses a high power laser (for example, a carbon dioxide laser) to fuse small
particles of plastic, metal (direct metal laser sintering), ceramic, or glass
powders into a mass that has a desired 3-dimensional shape. The laser
selectively fuses powdered material by scanning cross-sections generated
from a 3-D digital description of the part (for example from a CAD
file or scan data) on the surface of a powder bed. After each
cross-section is scanned, the powder bed is lowered by one layer
thickness, a new layer of material is applied on top, and the process is
repeated until the part is completed.

and:

Unlike some other additive manufacturing processes, such as stereolithography
(SLA) and fused deposition modeling
(FDM), SLS does not require support structures due to the fact that the
part being constructed is surrounded by unsintered powder at all times.

Perhaps the video actually depicts selective laser sintering rather than 3D

printing?
