In my experience you generally get what you pay for especially in sound decoders. When I first started going DCC I only had 2 locos done. This was when the Tsunami was announced but was not available until about 2 years later. Unfortunately Soundtraxx also stopped producing their DSD 150 so people were scrounging to get them. I got tired of waiting. MRC came out with a sound/motor decoder for about $60.00 so I got 2 of them. I put 1 in my L1. It made noise but not very good noise. All sound were "canned" and made the same noise everything - no playable whistle etc. When I was packing up my apartment to move here I came across the 2nd MRC decoder still new in the box. I threw it out. It is going to take something pretty amazing to get me off of the Tsunami for my known future...
