I recall reading an article about a guy in O scale that was using 2 decoders in
each of his engines. 1 for motor and one for sound. He would program the short
address to "1" for every motor decoder and "2" for every sound decoder. Then he
would program both with the long address of what ever road number the
particular engine had. That way he would never forget which was which and he
could program each individually on his program track. Maybe that helps?

Jonathan

Dear Chris,
We had this very situation before the Tsunami was introduced and we were
installing the Soundtraxx DSX decoders in our F units. To program either
decoder, you would have to unplug the one you do not want to change. This is
due to the CV settings not being the same for all decoders, although many are
the same, not all are. Fortunately, bot the DSX and Lenz Gold decoders used JST
connectors for the wire harness so either could be unplugged. Although the Lenz
silver was about $5 less expensive, we felt compelled to go with the decoder
that would be easier for our customers to reprogram.
