But...

I'm making progress.

Yup, you read correctly. Ming The Molasses Man... is making progress. In
fact, I'm taking a break while some glue dries. I'm so proud of myself that
I just had to post.

What, you ask, has prompted such radical behavior on my part to the point
that I'm actually sitting at the workbench and... (gasp)... MODELING???

That's an interesting question. I wish I could answer it. Thing is, this
"fickle n' flighty fever" just comes and goes seemingly at a whim. It has
been gone for a long spell. Yet, for some reason the past while, the
rumblings of interest returned... and miracle of miracles, I am sitting at
the workbench. I think part of it was my sales pitch in that O gauge forum
thread. Done went and convinced myself all over again what a great scale
this is.

Now, when the fever is flung on me, I like to accomplish things. (Oh, and
spend money. I like to spend money on goodies when I'm pumped.) I don't
seem to possess the qualities it takes to make "tortoise" progress (slow and
steady). Instead, I'm more like the hare: Spurts of activity... followed
by... well... nothing. SO, I figure I might as well ride this spurt for all
its worth. THAT SO...

I am using an upcoming event to also motivate me to get something done.
September 25th, there's going to be another gathering of Frisco Folks
(modelers, historians, enthusiasts, etc), this time in Springfield, MO. I
have plans to be there. I want to have something new to take. Something S
scale.

Now, knowing me, when the fever's flung on me, I sometimes have a tendency
to crank out stuff en masse. (One time long ago, I had something like two
dozen rolling stock projects to airbrush... another time I had several
detailed/kitbashed engines ready to pass under the airgun. Painted all day
on both counts. Fortunately, all the years of Floquil Dio-sol didn't harm
me in any way. Nope, I don't any dain bramage have at all.) Don't know if
I'll actually do that this time, but I DO have quite a stack of goals set.

* Mask and paint my undec NW2 into the KC&G.
* Mask and weather my RTR CB&Q SW9.
* Finish the Baldwin S-12 and get it into KC&G paint.

But the biggie, the one that's waiting for glue to dry: A Frisco
DS-4-4-1000 kitbash.

Yup... gonna' do it. Can't help myself. This is the project that I hope
gets finished in time for the Frisco Folks meet. The other goals above
would be frosting if accomplished.

And I'm off to a fair start. Most of the below has been accomplished since
last evening:

* New footboards.
* Huge holes that were for the plastic handrails plugged and filed/sanded
smooth.
* The unwanted sets of louvers chisled off and sanded smooth.
* Mold lines and other injection molding seams sanded and smoothed.
* The laminate strip to be used for the falsies is glued, weighted, and
drying.

Long ways to go. BUT... off to a good start.

Soon, it will be time to select and purchase a DCC decoder w/Baldwin sounds,
speakers, std pin plug, some warm colored LED's, some engineers and
firemen... wow. Lot's to do, huh? 55 days and counting.

Why am I wasting time posting???

Gotta' run...

Andre Ming
