Hi All:
Though I am a HUGE sucker for boxcars (house cars really, for I like reefers
too), I DO want a bit of variety among all the boxcars and refridgerator
cars.
KC's Sunshine Biscuit is slated to be represented on my layout. I was too
small to recall specifics of what industry received what kind of
inbounds/etc. Soo... I'm attempting to fill in the blanks.
Seeing that all sorts of crackers (like the Hi-Ho cracker), etc, was mfg'd
at Sunshine Biscuits, is it safe to assume the following inbound products:
* Grain products. (Flour, wheat, etc.)
* Cooking oil. (Vegetable oil.)
* Various other dry indgrediants. (Salt, sugar, baking soda, etc.)
* Packaging supplies. (Boxes, etc.)
So, some questions among the knowlegable:
On the inbound grain products (wheat/flour/etc)... think that would be
processed flour/etc shipped in 100lb sacks in boxcars as oppossed to bulk?
(Like in covered hoppers.)
* Anybody know how vegetable was oil shipped in the early 60's?
Tank car? If so, what sort of tank car? Would it be a car like AM
produces... or more like an AF car?
The other dry goods used in lesser quantities as well as the packaging would
likely come in via boxcars.
Even thought hiway trucks are really struggling to have business on my
version of the West Bottoms. :-) I guess in the case of the fragile nature
of crackers, I think it's safe to assume that the finished crackers were
shipped locally/regionally in trucks.
