A friend of mine has a large O scale layout, 30 x 50' and he used exclusively,
Upson board or Upsonite. It is another paper/woodchip based material, but is
uniform thickness and comes in at least three thicknesses. He beveled the edges
to 45 degrees, kerfed it for curved roadbed. I think, not sure, he coated it
with some kind of sealer as it has a thin paper covering on both sides. He
handspiked all his trackwork. Upsonite is available from Niagara Fiberboard. A
Google Search for it brings up a description and qualities of it.
