The SP Pacific's were announced almost 2 years ago. With the exception of the webpage, I don't think there's been any other advertising. And when brought up in fromt of the Flyer contingent, they complain the price is too high. If you go back throgh the archives, you'll find there's a lot of heasitancy about Sunset Models because of the GP7's, Challengers and Big Boy's imported decades ago. Sunset 3rd Rail, while spawned from the original Sunset Models, is not the same company it was back then. Many in the O Scale world speak highly of Sunset 3rd Rail. Higher than Lionel or MTH, in fact. The only major problems with 3rd Rail products I'm aware of, was with the trucks falling apart on the 3 rail version of the Electroliner, but not the 2 rail version.(Go figure...) I own two 3rd Rail O scale locomotives, a CB&Q O5B 4-8-4 and CB&Q S4 4-6-4. Both are solid, well built locomotives that run well. (If these were available in S, I wouldn't of had to bought them in O...) Utimately however, it boils down to if there is a strong enough market for three versions of an SP Pacific. It would appear there isn't. Maybe, the SP modelers are still recovering from River Rasin's SP 2-8-2's 2-10-2's and 4-8-2's. Perhaps, something more "generic" would have been a better choice for 3rd Rail to break out into S. Something like a USRA Heavy 2-8-2.
