Other than the fact that there is usually some minor detail flaw that is
correctable on AM shells, my only real complaint with American Models diesels
is the overly high mounting point of their truck pivot points. Because of this
design, pushing or pulling a stalled loco on the track usually results in a
derailment. This can be a problem in multi-unit lashups when a loco hits a spot
of dirty track and stalls momentarily, causing it to derail. Locos with more
traditional low mounted pivots will usually just slide through a dead spot
without derailing, being pushed along by the other units. That being said, I
have many AM diesels, in addition to several SHS and brass units, and I am very
fond of them. I think the best performers are the SHS units, followed closely
by the AM, and the most troublesome tend to be the brass ones.

Thanks to Ron at American Models and Don & Mike at SHS for making it so easy
for me to have good performing S scale locos.

Regards,
Bill Nielsen in FL
