Central PA is a very heavily agricultural area. Having said that, one
does not have to travel very far, before noticing differences in the barns and
other outbuildings, by area. Eastern Lancaster County barns are
different from western or northern or southern Lancaster County barns, due, at
least in part, to materials available locally to build them with. We have ALL
stone barns, stone end wall barns, all frame barns, different colors and
states of repair. With the off-kilter milk pricing (gov't regulation) many
farmers are hurting while milk prices are rising.

I disagree that all barns are crude structures. Many get that way from
negligence. I can remember barns in Wisconsin that were always kept painted
and looked good. Most Wisconsin barns did not have 1 x 12's, but 1 x 4's for
siding. Most Wisconsin barns were painted red with white trim. I realize
that barns look different in other parts of the country. Most barns that are
being used today in Wisconsin are well kept.

A barn is a pretty crude structure and most were just built to suit the
site so I'd just give her a pile of balsa wood sticks and tell her to embrace
her inner architect. or to make it even cheaper just cut up cardboard into
1 by 12 planks and start gluing. Then when it's done whitewash it
