All,
Well there has been much discussion of SHS track and rail lately including at the Get Together yesterday.. I have had SHS track and rail for a long time but never really paid attention to the rail height. I was involved with Don back in the day getting PRR drawings that were followed to make the track. I only used the sectional track at Christmas time. It was only in about May that I actually measured it with my trusty STARRETT digital calipers while working on my layout. Even I was surprised that the rail is .140 when I long thought it was .125 as well. I had stockpiled some code 125 turnouts along the way and decided to sell them because .015 was a substantial difference in my mind to deal with at every transition from track to turnouts. Can it be done? I am sure it can. I just did not want to do it. Part of that decision was the fact that I had SHS rail only and a complete supply of Fast Tracks tools and fixtures to make any turnout I wanted with SHS rail and code 100 as well. Although still unused at this point I CAN do it. Anyone need #10 made with SHS rail? I got it covered! DUH! Why I bought #10 tools still remains a mystery to me..
