Which begs the question why didn't he just use scale track and be done with
it? It looks like he spent enough time and resources on the layout that the
cost and effort of changing out wheelsets in the cars would have been a non
issue?..Dave Branum

To answer Dave's question, because I asked Brooks directly..

First - Brook's previous layout was an evolution. He HAD real AF sectional
track and AF knuckle couplers on it at one time. It all slowly got changed
out over time. When I saw it, there was 2-3 sections of A F track left that
would have difficult to swap out.

Moving forward to the current and completely new layout, it was 2 things.
The changing of the wheels on all the rolling stock including some things he
made. But most importantly is he HATES derailments. He knew he would work
towards operating sessions. Brooks wants to run without anything derailing -
ever. And it does not derail.

If you have seen the current layout in person the rail height never crosses
your mind. It is by far the best layout room environment I have ever been
to. There was nature sounds playing that filled in the quiet when you could
not hear trains running. Truly stunning.. Brooks has the loco sound units
tweaked perfectly so you can't hear the trains from everywhere in the room.
They do come and go.

Thank You,
Bill Lane
