Forwarded by several friends. A true bummer. His books are an amazing
compilation of research.

An obituary for David Myrick was in the Santa Barbara News-Press this
morning. There is not date of passing included but I assume it was recent.
"David worked in the office of the president of the Southern Pacific as an
assistant and financial officer from 1944 until his retirement in 1981. He
also wrote extensively including 17 books and over 140 articles and book
reviews. His tomes on the Railroads of Nevada and Eastern California (three
volumes) and Railroads of Arizona (6 volumes) are very detailed including
maps that he drew, plenty of vintage photos, lists of rolling stock and
detailed histories of railroads that otherwise would be overlooked. He also
wrote a single volume on the railroads of New Mexico.
As a Santa Barbara native, he was involved with the history here as well
including books on Montecito (two volumes) and several railroad articles in
the local historical society's publication.
He did presentations for the Southern Pacific Historical and Technical
Society about the Ojai Branch in 1997. His extensive knowledge of the
Southern Pacific and his thorough treatment of history will be missed."
