As you go off on the regular battle of the scales and what if, I though I would
mention that at least half the guys who visited the Minnesota Heartland this
weekend did mention that they feel S is the perfect size and if only..... Well,
I have heard that before and feel that there will be darn few who follow
through but that is their loss not mine. I did have one visitor who just moved
into the area. He is an experienced modeler and operator in HO but
acknowledges he really thinks S is great. I found he didn't have a layout and
would not be building one for a while so i invited him to visit again with his
wife (who is also a model railroader) and that they could become part of the
PPSSW. When he builds, will he build HO again. Perhaps, he has an extensive
inventory of HO freight cars and motive power but if he helps us build our
layout and perhaps builds a piece or two in S, I see that as a bonus.
Before someone tells me off about what a slacker I am when promoting the scale,
I also coordinate the clinics for our local Division of the NMRA. S is always
featured with every other scale, you would be hard pressed to consider us an
obscure minority scale in the Twin Cities. I just cannot spend to much time
worrying about something I cannot control.
Anyway, I am happy that the top of the layout is clean and the trains are
running well. If I stick to one project at a time, it may stay that way for a
while. Just to help that I am going to have another open house for the
railroad on the 5th of November for friends, neighbors and their kids. In the
evening, I may invite the local model railroading community to stop by so they
can see what they are missing if only....
Remind me to warn my neighbor.
Have a good week.
Ken
