To All
Containers were held in place in gondolas or container cars by a few
different ways. I have seen pictures of a piece of 1/2" steel welded on end,
about 6" I bean welded in, or just put wood blocks between the containers. As
for a model, just place the containers in the gondola to fill the car. The
problem is that you need the right sized containers to fit into a car. Speaking
about containers, you will want to check out the 2012 S Fest car and load by
Badgerland S Gaugers which will be at the S Fest in St. Louis this week.
Containers are involves. Containers come in many sizes, the most common being
about 4' x 8' x 8'. With a 4' x8' x8' container, you can get 10 in a Des
Plaines composite gondola. But you can only get 12 in an American Models 52'
gon, with about 1 inch of space left over. You would need a slightly smaller
container to get 14 in, which most pictures of these gons show. At the S Fest,
I will have a note book of copies of container articles and drawings. Stop by
at my table and we can talk containers.
