Trains are running in my basement. Here is the first photo for public
consumption. http://www.lanestrains.com/First_Layout_Photo.jpg The
difference putting up the quick n dirty backdrop is just night and day. At
this point they are just clamped on & only 16 feet long. This is what I am
calling the "freight side". Everything shown here is as temporary as you can
get. The track is just lightly tacked down. But I did have to add some drops
to the DCC power buss. I figure sometime in the spring I will break it down
and start on laying the track plan. But I kind of like the simplicity of
this scene as well. The other side not shown is where I have been spending
my time. That will have the passenger station.

Considering I officially started this layout on 1-2-11 and the sections
shown here did not even have legs on them 2 weeks ago I am pretty happy with
the progress. The 3 remaining shorts got fixed today. All track is now live
without shorts. Best of all the EM-1 and J1 happily pass each other without
any problems. This is the first time my J1 ran in my house. The turns were
too sharp on my old test track layout. Up next will be going over all of the
turnouts etc for gauge and guardrail clearance issues.

I am getting an addition to my garage so most of the current garage becomes
my workshop - which means only the layout, washer and dryer will be in the
basement. Storage shelves and workbench are getting evicted early next year.
This will allow for some expansion beyond the current loop with a jump
across the aisle way. Maybe I will have a turntable after all.

Thank You,
Bill Lane
