After a couple of pleasant days in St Louis at the'Fest, the PPSSWS
contingent made a stop in Fort Madison to see the Shabbona railroad. I had
forgotten that I had visited with Bob back in 2009, but remembered about half
way down the basement steps. Not much scenery or structures but some
wonderfully running code 100 trackwork. Bob ran several trains to schedule - a
passenger train, the mail train and a grain and chemical freight train. We saw
the work Bob had done on older S scale motive power (mostly Alco Models) to
make them very smooth running. Lots of switches, all manual, to keep track of
and an older 3 throttle DC system that Bob had intimate command of. I learned
all sorts of track laying techniques that I can't wait to try out! A very
pleasant hour and a half at the Shabbona Rail. Thanks, Bob!
