You ARE specialized; I'd rather thought you had a more generalized New England 
perspective.
One of my Kidder [O scale] 44-tonners is painted and lettered for SV #3; about 
halfway down my
list of projects is reworking a LaBelle combine kit for their car (and another 
for a B&C/StJ&LC three-fer).
Rather farther down the list is scratchbuilding SV #1.

Somewhere in all the cartons is my run of Don Valentine's NE States Limited 
with an article on
detailing a USRA light for Rutland (probably HO, but I was thinking of my O 
scale Overland--and
now my S scale one).

My general impression is that you'd need to strip most of the superstructure 
for a K-8; someone listed
a drive from the Omnicon 2-8-0 not that long ago that might be a better 
starting point.  I believe Don
Valentine imported HO models of the K-7, but I don't think he did a K-8.  The 
late Jay Young had a
very nice scratch-built one in O scale.
