There were several versions, with either metal or plastic wheelsets, 33" or
36"diameter. Bettendorfs came as either equalized or sprung; I think
roller-bearingscame only sprung, and their archbars came only equalized. It is
hard for me todistinguish between the Rex equalized Bettendorfs and the Ace
equalized.Perhaps that is because (trying to remember an earlier thread I
initiated)the die-cutters for Rex did the Ace masters. It is probably not
coincidencethat the conversion floors for AF housecars is identical with the
Rex gondolasand flatcars.
Although I wasn't around as a witness, my impression is that the Ace trucks
werethe S scale standard after Northeastern trucks became hard to find but
before allthe modern choices (AM/SHS/PRS).
